スマートフォンやPCのディスプレイを通して、デジタル世界の情報とアクセスし、生活することが一般的となった。一方で、我々の生きる物質世界と、ディスプレイにより定義された境界の先にある、デジタル世界との隔たりを大きく感じている。
物理的には、ディスプレイの平面に存在するはずにもかかわらず、どこか実態感が希薄で、ツールとして受け入れてはいるが、生理的違和感は払拭できずにいる。

本作では、表面に光ファイバーが無数に並んでおり、作品内部に設置されたディスプレイのピクセルに結合されている。光ファイバーの導光性により、各ピクセルの光はファイバーの先端に転写され、実空間に物質性を持って離散させることで、デジタル世界を物質空間に取り出し、情報との無意識的接続を表現した。

It has become commonplace to access information and live through the displays of smartphones and PCs. At the same time, we feel an increasing gap between the material world we inhabit and the digital world that lies beyond the boundaries defined by those displays. Physically, the digital should exist on the plane of a screen, yet it often feels insubstantial; we accept it as a tool, but a visceral unease persists.

In this work, countless optical fibers are arranged across the surface and coupled to the pixels of a display installed inside the piece. Thanks to the fibers’ light-guiding properties, each pixel’s illumination is transmitted to the tips of the fibers and reproduced in physical space as discrete, material points. By extracting the digital into the material realm and making that connection tangible, the work expresses an unconscious, bodily link to information.
